The Global OLED Lighting Substrate Market size is expected to exhibit a CAGR of more than 10% from 2021 to 2028. The growth in the market can be attributed to factors such as increasing demand for energy-efficient products, technological advancements in OLEDs, and raising awareness about the benefits of green technologies.
Light-emitting Diodes or LEDs don't produce enough light for some purposes. In other cases where more than a single LED is needed to provide the desired level of illumination, such as in neon signs, it can be difficult to make each one emit just the right amount of light without overexposing any area and leaving others too dark. This problem has been solved by using an OLED Lighting Substrate which diffuses brightness uniformly across its surface. LEDs, photovoltaic cells for solar panels, thin-film transistors, and sensors are some applications where OLED lighting substrate is used. It can also be applied to different areas such as toys or medical equipment that require a display screen with high resolution.
On the basis of Type, the market is segmented into Plastic, Metal, and Fabric. The plastic segment accounted for the largest market share accounting for more than half of the global OLED lighting substrate volume share.
Plastic OLED substrate is made of organic LED and polymer materials. The plastic material makes the process more flexible than other substrates because it can be stretched to fit different shapes without breaking like glass or metal. LEDs are most commonly used in displays, lighting panels, backlights for TVs/LCDs, sensors as well as many other applications. Plastic OLED has a wide range of potential uses that make them an attractive option over traditional substrates such as metal and glass which have been traditionally used in these areas. For example, they may offer cost savings due to their flexibility if being applied on large surfaces where weight needs to be distributed evenly across regions with uneven ground.
Metal OLED Substrate is a display type that uses organic light-emitting compounds and metal electrodes to produce color images. The major advantages of Metal OLED are its high brightness, low power consumption, and excellent energy efficiency; moreover, the operating temperature can be adjusted from room temperature up to 100°C or higher depending on requirements.
Fabric LED substrate is a thin sheet of plastic that contains small ribbon-like conductors that emit light. Fabric LEDs are versatile and can be used in almost any application including clothing, lampshades, tablecloths, or curtains. A fabric LED substrate lights up when it receives an electric current just like a regular LED does but the luminescent material has been printed on the surface instead of being mixed into the plastic itself.
The advantage to this type of design is that you don't need to worry about heat dissipation because there isn't one - great for fabrics with delicate materials. The disadvantage however is they have limitations in terms of brightness so these types must only be used where ambient lighting might suffice.
On the basis of Application, the market is segmented into Commercial, Industrial, and Residential. The commercial segment accounted for the largest market share accounting for more than half of the global OLED lighting substrate volume share.
On the basis of Region, the market is segmented across North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Middle East & Africa. North American region led in terms of revenue owing to a huge adoption rate by commercial consumers as well as government initiatives such as the US Department of Energy's L Prize Competition which focuses on development related to OLED technology. On contrary to this trend European region lead with regard to growth prospects owing primarily due to the "Bold-First" scheme launched by China’s Ministry Of Science And Technology (MOST).
Europe, Asia Pacific, and Middle East & Africa are the fastest-growing regions in terms of OLED lighting substrate market volume. Sectors such as commercial, industrial, residential followed by emerging sectors like non-residential and transportation are expected to be leading contributors towards growth for the global OLED lighting substrate market during the forecast period.
