AC towers are typically used in high voltage (HV) networks and DC transmission lines. The AC tower is the most common type of tower as it has a higher carrying capacity than wire cables which leads to fewer losses on account of resistance from conductors.DC Towers have lower costs for installation, operation as well as maintenance but they cannot be used at all voltages, unlike an AC Tower. In addition, their construction requires more space due to the lack of insulation between them during electric arc welding whereas AC towers can use insulating materials like oil or polyurethane foam with no need for additional space requirements because electricity flows through the air rather than metal.

 

DC Electricity Transmission Towers:

DC Towers have lower costs for installation, operation as well as maintenance but they cannot be used at all voltages, unlike an AC Tower.
